Our story…
I’m Lara, the horse fanatic behind The Tack House, and my obsession with horses started pretty early.
My first trusty “steed” was Candy, an 11hh Welshy with plenty of personality, and not necessarily the good kind!
Candy had been left on the farm when my family bought the property. Dad got her hooves back into shape and, with very little horse knowledge and no idea of Candy’s history, I somehow learnt to ride on her. Some of my old school friends will probably still remember being chased around the paddock or unceremoniously bucked off her!
From there came a string of ponies, none particularly flashy or worth much more than something off the dog tucker truck. But what they lacked in pedigree and price tags, they more than made up for in character, giving me a lifelong love of horses that has never gone away.
We made do with what we had, looked after our gear and passed things on. I learnt pretty early that you didn’t need the flashiest pony or the newest gear to have an incredible amount of fun with horses. These childhood memories have helped shape the “why” behind The Tack House.
The idea behind The Tack House
Anyone involved with horses knows how quickly the costs add up, and buying everything new isn’t always realistic. Yet at the same time, there’s an incredible amount of quality gear sitting unused in tack sheds everywhere.
The Tack House brings those two things together: making quality equestrian gear affordable and easier to access, while giving great gear the opportunity to be used and loved all over again.
We also wanted to create somewhere that felt genuine and trustworthy. Somewhere horse people could shop with confidence, have a good browse and hopefully find a great piece of gear without always having to buy new.
Whether you visit us at our store here in the metropolis of the Waimate District, or shop with us online from further afield, I hope The Tack House feels welcoming, genuine and makes buying and selling gear a breeze.
